BCIS Learning Assistant

About the role

The BCIS Learning Assistant supports teachers and helps children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom. The role focuses on promoting inclusion, encouraging participation, and raising attainment while fostering independence, self‑esteem and well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Support teachers by working with individual students or small groups, following co‑planning and differentiated learning strategies.
• Promote inclusion by encouraging all students to participate in learning and extracurricular activities.
• Use ICT tools to enhance student learning where appropriate.
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies and maintain a safe, stimulating learning environment.
• Observe and report student performance, assist with assessments, and help prepare displays of student work.
• Assist with classroom preparation, resource organisation and learning‑space set‑up.
• Help students adjust, learn and socialize, reporting any behavioural concerns to teachers.
• Supervise students on field trips, bus duties and during extracurricular events, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
• Provide health and safety support, including safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
• Participate in professional development, school meetings and the school’s self‑evaluation process.
