Energy Division Internship – Sustainable Energy Research

About the role

The Energy Division of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is offering a three‑to‑six‑month unpaid internship in Bangkok. Interns will support the Division’s work on energy security, the energy transition and climate‑change mitigation in line with Sustainable Development Goal 7.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, process and analyse energy‑demand and supply data at national, sub‑regional and regional levels.
• Research and summarise good practices in energy financing, pricing, taxation and subsidies.
• Assist in the development of project proposals and implementation of the Regional Road Map on Power System Connectivity.
• Maintain and update the Asia‑Pacific Energy Portal, including data verification and GIS mapping of energy infrastructure.
• Support knowledge‑management tasks such as news monitoring, briefing preparation and social‑media content creation.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programme in a field related to energy, economics, environmental studies or a similar discipline.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of an additional UN language is an advantage.
• Ability to work full‑time (37.5 hours/week) under the supervision of a staff member.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Excel.
• Basic GIS knowledge for energy‑infrastructure mapping.
