Whole School Counsellor – Wellbeing

About the role

The Whole School Counsellor will provide professional counselling services to support the social and emotional wellbeing of children aged 3‑18 within an international school environment. The role works closely with teaching staff, parents and safeguarding teams to create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver individual, group and family counselling sessions tailored to students' emotional and mental health needs.
• Collaborate with school staff to identify and support pupils experiencing wellbeing difficulties.
• Maintain confidential records and manage the student referral system, producing regular quantitative reports.
• Provide consultation on child protection issues and contribute to safeguarding action plans.
• Support new families during transition to the school and new cultural environment.
• Assist the Curriculum Lead and PSHE Lead in integrating mental health topics into the curriculum.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate diploma or Master’s qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy or Clinical Psychology with a specialist focus on children and adolescents.
• Professional registration (BACP, UKCP, BPC or equivalent) and relevant accreditation.
• Proven experience assessing and treating students with complex psychological needs.
• Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding practice within a school setting.
• Understanding of global diversity and third‑culture issues.

• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills for sensitive information sharing.
• Ability to work autonomously while receiving appropriate clinical supervision.
• Strong organisational skills to manage administrative systems and budgeting for counselling resources.
• Capability to stay current with counselling developments and disseminate relevant information to staff.
