Economist – Development Strategy

About the role

The Inclusive Growth Team at UNDP’s Bangkok Regional Hub is looking for an Economist to support the Building Opportunities for Leadership in Development (BOLD) initiative. The role involves providing evidence‑based economic analysis that helps governments design inclusive, sustainable growth strategies across Asia and the Pacific.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct analytical assessments on economic growth, structural transformation, jobs, labour‑market trends, productivity and inequality.
• Apply quantitative and qualitative methods to produce diagnostics that inform government strategy processes.
• Develop growth and inclusion models, perform micro‑data analysis and sectoral assessments.
• Prepare technical papers, data‑driven policy briefs and background notes for senior economists and government counterparts.
• Contribute to regional knowledge products on economic transformation and inclusive development.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or PhD) in Economics or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in economic analysis, labour‑market research and growth diagnostics.
• Familiarity with inclusive development concepts and the ability to work with government officials and senior UNDP staff.
• Strong analytical, writing and presentation skills.
