Research and Advocacy Specialist (Consultant)

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) seeks a specialist to support follow‑up and review activities linked to the 2030 Agenda, including Voluntary National Review (VNR) workshops, technical assistance, and the Asia‑Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). The consultant will work under the Sustainable Development Officer, coordinating logistics, documentation, and partnership activities for VNR and APFSD events.

Key responsibilities

• Provide logistical and reporting support for VNR workshops, develop meeting reports, and maintain a tracking mechanism of good practices.
• Draft and finalize the VNR background document for the 14th APFSD, incorporating feedback from senior management.
• Coordinate the 2026 VNR Twinning and Peer Learning Programme, including TOR development, online moderation, and study‑tour arrangements.
• Liaise with Resident Coordinators, VNR focal points, UN agencies and partners to deliver country‑specific technical assistance and enhance partnership frameworks.
• Serve as focal point for APFSD‑related events, managing venue logistics, catering, webpage updates, and preparing presentations for management.
• Support the team with research, communications, and preparatory tasks for SDG factsheets and round‑table events.

Required profile

• Academic background in public policy, international relations, environmental management or social sciences.
• Strong analytical, coordination and drafting abilities with excellent English written and spoken communication.
• Experience supporting international events, producing publications, and managing partnerships, preferably within UN or multilateral settings.
