Senior Engineer, Development Engineering (Firmware)

About the role

Western Digital is looking for a Senior Engineer, Development Engineering to design, develop, test and maintain firmware for eHDDs. The role covers data structures, software algorithms, data paths and drivers for hardware cores, and delivers storage products with SAS, SATA and PCIe interfaces. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, integrate and maintain quality firmware for eHDD using unit tests and TDD.
• Design and implement data structures, software algorithms, data paths and drivers for hardware cores using C++ and Python.
• Deliver storage products with SAS, SATA and PCIe interfaces.
• Collaborate on solutions across hardware and software platforms, including servers, RAID and Windows and Linux.
• Take part in technical investigations from problem statement to conclusion.
• Create design documents for each phase of firmware development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering or equivalent; fresh graduates welcome.
• 0-2 years of experience in a relevant field or embedded firmware experience.
• Ability to learn quickly and work as part of a worldwide team.
• Good command of English.

Required skills

• C/C++, object-oriented programming, Python, data structures and algorithms.
• Preferred: microcontroller architecture (ARM or ARC), embedded systems and RTOS.
• Preferred: knowledge of SAS, SATA and PCIe interfaces, and use of bus analyzers and firmware debugging tools.
• Data analytics skills and project management ability.
