AI Information Technology Intern (Master's or Bachelor's Student)

About the role

Western Digital is looking for an intern in AI information technology for students currently pursuing a Master's or Bachelor's degree. The internship is part of the company's Early Career program, which provides structured onboarding, mentorship and development for early-career professionals. The work focuses on AI-driven systems applied to manufacturing processes and application error logs.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, conceptualize and design AI-driven systems targeting manufacturing processes and application error logs.
• Write calculations and base code according to the design and perform data validation.
• Prepare documentation, progress reports, dashboards, technical summaries and presentations of findings.
• Keep the hiring manager regularly updated on activities and deliverables.
• Assist in analyzing engineering and manufacturing data to find improvement opportunities.
• Support process monitoring and optimization, and work with engineers on tests and technical evaluations.
• Take part in problem-solving and root cause analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Required profile

• Currently studying a Master's or Bachelor's degree in AI and Automation, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or an equivalent field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Visual Studio C#/C++ and other languages such as Python or Java.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and version control systems such as Git.
• Ability to handle large datasets and technical information, with a structured, organized approach.
• Able to work independently and in a team, with strong English communication skills.

Preferred skills

• Basic knowledge of statistical process control, manufacturing processes and AI in manufacturing.
• Experience with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) or API development.
• Hands-on experience with real engineering and data analysis projects.
• Knowledge of full-stack development, React, TensorFlow, machine learning, C++/C#, Python or R, Agentic AI, MQ technologies, MSSQL/PLSQL and PostgreSQL.
