Database Administrator – Oracle Server Operations

About the role

The United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology seeks a consultant to deliver reliable, secure, and highly available Oracle database services. The role focuses on backup, recovery, performance optimisation, and providing technical support to application owners and developers.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, certify and manage Oracle servers, including high‑availability configurations, RMAN backups, disaster‑recovery and fail‑over exercises.
• Monitor availability, alerts, incidents, performance and baseline deviations; use AWR, ASH and custom scripts for proactive tuning.
• Perform capacity planning, system upgrades, cumulative updates and migrations.
• Automate routine DBA tasks and maintain automation/shell scripts.
• Manage database space, accounts, indexes, statistics and resource utilisation.
• Provide technical support and tuning recommendations to developers and application owners.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in computer science, software engineering or related field (or Bachelor’s with 10 years experience).
• Minimum 5 years experience in Oracle Server database administration.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Oracle high availability, RMAN backup/recovery, disaster recovery and fail‑over validation.
• AWR, ASH performance tuning, capacity planning and database/OS optimisation.
• Shell scripting / automation of DBA tasks.
• Experience raising and managing Oracle Support service requests (SRs).
