Engineering Intern (Maintenance Engineer) - Master's Level

About the role

Western Digital is recruiting an Engineering Intern (Master's Level) for its Head Backend Business Unit at the Thailand site (THO). The internship lasts 3 to 6 months and is aimed at graduate students with advanced engineering knowledge and research experience, expected to work at a higher technical level than undergraduate interns. Interns are embedded in the THO Engineering organization, assigned a senior engineer mentor and expected to lead a defined technical project with measurable outcomes. High-performing interns may be considered for conversion to the ECT under the BEST Program.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out a defined engineering or process improvement project with clear scope and deliverables
• Apply graduate-level technical knowledge to real manufacturing challenges in slider/HGA operations
• Perform data analysis, technical documentation and experiment design under mentor guidance
• Present findings to the engineering team at mid-point and at program close
• Contribute technical insights that can be carried forward after the internship
• Take part in structured learning sessions, assessments and IDP-lite conversations

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
• Completed Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical discipline
• Strong academic record with an active thesis or research project
• Available for a 3-6 month structured internship
• Preferred: thesis or research on manufacturing, materials, process optimization or precision engineering; exposure to Lean, Six Sigma or quality engineering; prior industry internship or research collaboration with a manufacturing firm

Required skills

• Data analysis proficiency (Minitab, Python, MATLAB or equivalent)
• Advanced technical problem-solving and research skills
• Strong written and verbal English
• Ability to manage a project workstream independently
