Government Affairs & Patient Advocacy Manager

About the role

AstraZeneca is looking for a Government Affairs and Patient Advocacy Manager to lead external engagement that shapes how therapies reach patients. The role connects scientific progress to policy realities, engaging policymakers, regulators and patient organisations so that national and regional frameworks align with patient access. It works closely with Market Access, Medical, Regulatory, Communications and Commercial teams.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse healthcare policy and legislation, turning insights into recommendations for business and access strategy
• Build relationships with government bodies, health ministries, regulators and policy influencers to advocate for patient access
• Design and run government affairs plans and represent the company in industry associations, working groups and public policy forums
• Develop patient advocacy strategies and partnerships with patient groups, NGOs and healthcare professionals
• Support access, disease awareness and adherence programmes, and report on policy trends and stakeholder outcomes
• Ensure compliance with laws, codes and internal policies, and assess and mitigate policy and advocacy risks with Legal and Compliance
• Manage assigned budgets and integrate with cross-functional teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Public Health, Communication or a related field
• 5-7 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, health policy or patient advocacy in pharma, biotech, medical devices or healthcare
• Experience with government agencies, health authorities, regulators and patient organisations
• Proven track record of policy and advocacy strategy, preferably in a regulated industry
• Experience in managed markets and leading project teams
• Master's degree in Public Policy, Health Economics, Business Administration (MBA), Communication or a related discipline strongly preferred
