Economic Affairs Intern – Trade Policy

About the role

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) is offering a 2‑to‑6 month unpaid internship in its Trade Policy and Facilitation Section. The role provides hands‑on experience in trade‑policy research, capacity building and advisory services for governments across the Asia‑Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct policy research on trade, digital trade, e‑commerce, global value chains and trade agreements.
• Analyse literature, draft background papers, policy notes and discussion documents.
• Support the preparation of presentations, training materials and workshop content.
• Identify data sources, collect and analyse trade‑related data, and update databases.

Required profile

• Academic background in economics (international trade or development economics), econometrics/data analysis, or international law.
• Ability to work full‑time (35 hours/week) for a period of 2‑6 months.
• Strong interest in sustainable and inclusive development in the Asia‑Pacific region.
