About the role

Staff Backend Engineer at Agoda, based in Bangkok with relocation support. You will own design, reliability and end‑to‑end delivery of critical services on a global travel platform.

Key responsibilities

Design, build and maintain scalable distributed systems and micro‑services.
Lead development of complex features and drive system and API design.
Own scalability, performance, reliability and fault tolerance of services.
Identify gaps and risks proactively and drive resolutions.
Mentor engineers and handle production incidents, root‑cause analysis and improvements.

Required profile

8–12 years of backend engineering experience building large‑scale distributed systems.
Proven ownership of services, ability to make independent technical decisions under ambiguity.
Track record of mentoring engineers and delivering impact.

Required skills

Java, Kotlin, Scala or Go.
Micro‑services architecture, REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases.
Experience with Kafka, Aerospike or similar event‑driven systems (nice to have).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), CI/CD pipelines and Agile/Scrum.
