About the role
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) seeks an experienced Editor to join its Editorial Unit in Bangkok. The role supports UN policy‑oriented research by ensuring the accuracy, clarity and consistency of a wide range of technical and specialized documents.
Key responsibilities
- Edit documents to meet United Nations standards, correcting spelling, punctuation, grammar and terminology while adhering to workload deadlines.
- Rewrite, abridge and restructure texts for improved readability and logical flow.
- Consult with author departments, verify facts, figures and references, and provide guidance on editorial policy.
- Utilise language technologies and suggest improvements, including identification of new terminology.
Required profile
- First‑level university degree and successful completion of the UN Competitive Examination for Editors (or equivalent).
- Minimum two years of editing experience within the United Nations, with familiarity with web‑based applications and electronic editing tools.
- Fluent command of English (UN Level IV) and proficiency in at least two other UN official languages.
- Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork and client‑orientation as outlined in UN competency framework.
