Accounting Assistant – Finance Unit

About the role

The United Nations Office at Geneva is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join its Payments Unit in Bangkok. Reporting to the Chief of Unit, you will support the Finance Section by ensuring accurate processing of financial transactions and maintaining reliable accounting records.

Key responsibilities

• Scrutinize source documents for completeness, accuracy and validity of charges.
• Investigate erroneous charges and apply corrective accounting actions.
• Communicate with field offices to resolve missing documentation or account discrepancies.
• Reconcile and review suspense accounts, ensuring proper clearance procedures.
• Prepare worksheets and assist in the preparation of financial statements.
• Act as Approving Officer for disbursements within authorized limits.
• Provide guidance and training to colleagues and supervise General Service staff as required.
• Respond to queries from staff and external parties.
• Collect, analyse and present data for reporting, knowledge management and decision‑making.
• Support visualisation tasks and update informational material such as web pages or brochures.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of UN financial regulations, accounting policies and practices.
• Ability to extract, interpret and analyse diverse data sets and resolve discrepancies.
• Professionalism, teamwork and accountability demonstrated through reliable delivery of results.
