Intern – Economic Affairs (Trade Policy)

About the role

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) is seeking a motivated intern to support the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience in trade‑policy research, capacity building and advisory services for governments across the Asia‑Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in policy research on trade, digital trade, e‑commerce, global value chains and multilateral/regional agreements.
• Conduct literature reviews, draft background notes, policy briefs and discussion documents.
• Support the preparation of presentations, training modules and workshop materials.
• Identify, collect, analyse and maintain trade‑related data sets.
• Contribute to the organization of regional dialogues, meetings and forums.

Required profile

• Academic background in economics (international trade, development economics) or related fields such as econometrics, data analysis or international law.
• Strong analytical and research abilities.
• Ability to work independently and under the supervision of a senior staff member.
