About the role
The Economic Affairs Internship offers a unique opportunity to support the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division of ESCAP. Interns will work remotely and/or on‑site in Bangkok for a period of three to six months, contributing to research, capacity‑building activities and policy dialogues across the Asia‑Pacific region.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on monetary policy, fiscal policy, tax cooperation, public finance governance and econometric evaluation of policies.
- Identify short‑ to medium‑term risks to sustainable development in the region.
- Prepare tables, graphs and inputs for ESCAP publications such as the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific.
- Support technical consultations, workshops and events on sustainable and green finance, including the design of capacity‑building materials and e‑learning modules.
- Research green financing instruments (green bonds, guarantees, debt‑for‑climate swaps, blended finance) and related topics such as digital finance and integrated national financing frameworks.
- Assist in the implementation of demonstration projects, for example the issuance of sustainable bonds.
Required profile
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) in economics, finance, public policy or a related field.
- Strong interest in macroeconomic policy and development finance.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative abilities.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
