Ghost Gear Project Manager

About the role

The Ghost Gear Project Manager will provide day‑to‑day technical and operational direction for the implementation of the "Advancing Sustainable Management and Recycling of Abandoned, Lost or Otherwise Discarded Fishing Gear" project in Indonesia and Viet Nam. Reporting to the COBSEA Coordinator, the consultant will oversee project delivery, ensure alignment with the COBSEA Regional Action Plan on Marine Litter, and support regional replication of successful approaches.

Key responsibilities

• Lead overall project management, including planning, monitoring, and reporting.
• Strengthen policy and institutional frameworks for fishing gear management across nine East Asian seas countries.
• Establish and oversee infrastructure for collection, storage, pre‑treatment and recycling of abandoned fishing gear.
• Develop and support viable collection, recycling and supply‑chain models.
• Facilitate capacity development, stakeholder cooperation and knowledge‑sharing activities.
• Prepare technical reports and financial documentation for donor and UNEP requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing environmental or marine‑related projects, preferably with donor funding.
• Familiarity with regional intergovernmental mechanisms and multi‑country coordination.
• Knowledge of fishing gear management, marine litter mitigation and recycling processes.
• Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.
