Programme Management Intern

About the role

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The internship is based in the Early Warning Section in Bangkok, supporting climate information and multi‑hazard early warning systems. The intern will assist with project development, research, analysis and proposal preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Support development of project concepts, concept notes and funding proposals on climate information and early warning systems.
• Conduct research and analysis of country and regional contexts, climate and disaster risks, policies, institutional arrangements and existing initiatives.
• Collect, compile and analyse quantitative and qualitative data from scientific, technical and policy sources.
• Contribute to project design elements such as situation analyses, theory of change, results frameworks and indicators.
• Perform desk research and literature reviews on climate services, adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
• Identify funding opportunities and map relevant programmes, partners and initiatives.
• Prepare research summaries, briefing materials, presentations and other analytical inputs.
• Support meetings and consultations, including preparation of background materials and documentation of discussions.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a graduate programme, final year of a bachelor programme, or graduated within the past year.
• Field of study relevant to environmental sciences, climate change, meteorology, hydrology, disaster risk management, geography, development studies, economics, public policy, international relations or engineering.
• Strong research, analytical and writing skills with ability to synthesize information clearly.
• Fluency in oral and written English; working knowledge of French or other UN languages is desirable.
