Disaster Risk Reduction Intern

About the role

The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRS) Section of the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division at ESCAP is seeking motivated interns to support its work in strengthening ICT connectivity and enhancing regional disaster risk management. This full‑time, unpaid internship in Bangkok offers hands‑on experience in socio‑economic analysis of disasters and international conference organization.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in quantitative and qualitative analysis of the socio‑economic impacts of disasters across the Asia‑Pacific region.
• Support the planning and logistics of international conferences, meetings and workshops related to disaster risk reduction.
• Conduct ad‑hoc research and provide background material for ongoing DRS projects.
• Collaborate with the Chief of the DRS Section and project officers on task‑team activities.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Strong interest in disaster risk reduction, ICT, and sustainable development.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is an advantage.
• Ability to work five days a week (35 hours) on‑site in Bangkok.
