About the role
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is looking for a motivated intern to support its satellite‑based environmental analytics programme for cities across the region. The position is full‑time (35 hours/week) for 4‑6 months and can be performed remotely or from the Bangkok office.
Key responsibilities
- Collect, organise and quality‑check satellite and geospatial datasets (Sentinel‑1/2, ECOSTRESS, GEMS, FIRMS, Pandonia) and build download manifests.
- Assist in onboarding new cities by preparing administrative boundaries, population layers and configuring data‑processing pipelines.
- Validate derived environmental indicators against published literature, compile reference data and produce comparison tables.
- Support InSAR‑based land‑subsidence analysis, including coherence assessment, SBAS/PS processing, GNSS tie‑in research and creation of cartographic products meeting UN standards.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or recently completed a graduate or final‑year undergraduate programme in remote sensing, geoinformatics, GIS, Earth observation, environmental science or a related field.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to data quality and reproducibility.
Required skills
- Python programming
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Remote sensing and Earth‑observation data processing
- Familiarity with Sentinel‑1/2, ECOSTRESS, GEMS, FIRMS, Pandonia datasets
- Basic knowledge of InSAR techniques, SBAS, PS and GNSS
- Cartographic standards and map production
