Country Manager, Thailand
Wise · Bangkok
Job description
About the role
Wise, a global technology company that helps people and businesses move and manage money across borders, is looking for an experienced Country Manager to lead its business in Thailand. Based in Bangkok and reporting to the Head of Southeast Asia Expansion, the role is hands-on: you will grow the business through go-to-market strategies, improve and expand the product offering and customer experience, and act as the chief spokesperson for Wise locally.
Key responsibilities
- Act as resident Board Director for Wise's licensed Thailand subsidiaries, prepare local board materials and ensure governance meets regulatory and global standards.
- Own risk, compliance and governance for Thailand entities, partnering with global Product, Risk, Compliance and Legal teams.
- Manage relationships with the Bank of Thailand and other regulators, and lobby for regulatory change, including direct non-bank integration into local payment systems.
- Help build and maintain Business Continuity Plans and oversee day-to-day operations of Wise in Thailand.
- Negotiate commercial terms and SLAs with partners and national payment networks, and lead licensing strategy and applications.
- Prioritise and launch products with global product and engineering teams, and run the go-to-market strategy to grow the customer base.
- Optimise the customer journey from onboarding to payment speed, and act as chief public spokesperson in media, policy forums and events.
- Shape the Thailand office culture and support talent attraction and retention.
Required profile
- Wealth of experience in Thailand payments, fintech or related fields, ideally with customer and revenue growth and market/product ownership.
- Proven track record of liaising with the Bank of Thailand or other regulators, including license applications, feature approvals, reporting or audit remediation.
- Deep understanding of the Thai payment landscape, PromptPay, clearing rails, card networks and payments and FX regulations; an established network in the Thai payment industry is preferred.
- Native fluency in written and spoken Thai and excellent professional English; comfortable presenting technical concepts to regulators and banks.
- Self-starter, data-driven, able to lead and build a team and to influence without authority.
What we offer
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Paid annual holiday, sick days, parental leave and other leave.
- 6 weeks of paid sabbatical after 4 years at Wise, on top of annual leave.
- International exposure and the chance to travel to the Regional HQ in Singapore or European offices when needed.
